Current Makeup Routine: July 2017

If any of you know me personally, you will know that I am an extremely low-maintenance girl. Typically, I do not apply a ton of makeup before I leave the house, simply because I never have enough time to do so. Once the school year hits, I have to wake up at 6 a.m. and get out the door by 6:50 a.m.

In this fifty-minute time span, I need to brush my teeth, comb my hair, do my makeup (the most time-consuming part of my morning routine), and eat breakfast. This means that I only have about 15-20 minutes every morning to perfect my makeup.

Since it is summer break, I do have much more time to do my makeup every day, yet I still like to keep it minimalistic.

Here are the products I use in the morning – step-by-step – to “beat my face” (please keep in mind that these products do not include my skincare routine, which I will post about another time!):

  1. Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW™ Pomade ($18)
Yes, I like to fill in my eyebrows BEFORE applying any foundation or concealer of any kind.
I love using this product in the shade, “Dark Brown.” With my Anastasia Beverly Hills Angled Cut Brush, I outline the shape of my eyebrows first, and then fill in the rest. I like to make the front part of my eyebrows the lightest, keeping the ends the darkest. After filling them in, I use a spooley brush to comb the front of my brows so they look more natural.

  2. Eyeshadow Primer: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Original ($22)
This primer helps increase the longevity of your eyeshadow and makes the colors much more vibrant. I apply this all over my eyelids and in my inner corners.

  3. Eyeshadow: Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette ($49)
This palette is AMAZING! The eyeshadows smell like chocolate, and they are super pigmented and easy to blend. This palette is, however, on the pricey side, but the color payoff makes it worth every single penny.
I use the matte orange color called “Peanut Butter” as my crease shadow, and then I like to go in with a mixture of two matte browns, “Puddin’” and “Mousse,” to deepen my outer crease. I then go in with “Bon Bon,” which is a gorgeous, shimmery pinkish-gold color, on my entire lid space.
To highlight my brow bone and my inner corner, I use “Butter Pecan,” a beautiful, shimmery peach shadow.

  4. Eyeliner: Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner ($8.99)
This is my favorite drugstore eyeliner! It has a creamy consistency, making it easy to apply and blend if you need to. It is also very long-lasting and waterproof, making it perfect for special occasions! I use the shade, “Blackest Black.”
To apply this, I use a small angled brush and I line my eyes as close to my lashline as possible. If I am in the mood for it, I would go for a classic winged look, but most days, I tend to line straight across my lashline.

  5. Mascara: Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara ($9.49)
This. Mascara. Is. Everything. If there is one product I had to use for the rest of my life, it would be this mascara. It lifts your lashes up, creating a voluminous, lengthy effect to your lashes. I highly suggest purchasing the waterproof version in the shade, “Blackest Black.”
First, I curl my lashes and apply a generous layer of this mascara. If it is a special occasion, I apply two or three coats, whereas on a normal day, I just stick to one.

  6. Face Primer: Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer ($31)
This primer does exactly what it promises to do: it minimizes the appearance of large pores, mattifies your skin, and provides a smooth canvas for your face makeup. I apply this all over my face, concentrating this product on my T-zone (forehead and nose), beneath my eyes, and on my “smile lines.”

  7. Foundation: Maybelline Fit Me® Matte + Poreless Foundation ($7.99)
Here we go again with Maybelline! I love this foundation because it has a matte finish, it is super buildable, it does not leave your skin feeling greasy, and it blends seamlessly. On a typical day, I only use one layer of this foundation, but I go for two or three coats whenever I go to parties or other special events. During the summer, my shade is “Sun Beige,” but in the winter, I use “Natural Beige,” which is a lot lighter in color.
I apply this foundation with a foundation brush I purchased from Avon, and then I use a Beauty Blender to blend it in to my skin for a more airbrushed look. I concentrate this product around my nose area, where I have more redness than the rest of my face.

  8. Concealer: Maybelline Fit Me® Concealer ($6.49)
This Maybelline concealer is one of my all-time favorites! I would say it is comparable to the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, except this is sold at a much more affordable price. It blends beautifully and it covers up any imperfections and blemishes I have on my face. I use the shade, “Sand,” which is a few shades lighter than my actual skin tone.
I use the applicator to apply this concealer under my eyes in a “triangle” shape, on the bridge of my nose, on my forehead in a downward triangle shape, on my cupid’s bow, and chin. I then blend it all in with my Beauty Blender.

  9. Contour: Lancôme Le Duo Stick ($36)
After I conceal, I love using cream contour to add some dimension to my face. Using the shade “Buff,” I contour the hollows of my cheeks, my temples, the sides of my face, my jawline, and the sides of my nose. I usually use the contour side only and not the highlight side of the stick.

  10. Powder: Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Refillable Palette ($49)
If you do not already have this palette, you are missing out! All the powders lock your foundation and concealer in and provide a matte finish, making your overall face makeup look flawless. This palette is perfect for those who have different skin tones in the summer and in the winter (aka me) because it allows you to mix different colors to achieve the perfect shade for your skin.
For summer, I use the shade “Lyric” (it is the yellow-ish color in the middle of the top row of the palette) to set the areas where I applied concealer, and then I use a combination of “Shadowplay” and “Subconscious” (the two darkest colors) to set my cream contour.

  11. Lip Liner: Sonia Kashuk® Lip Definer ($7.99)
I used to never use lip liner – I thought there was no purpose in using it. But after I used this lip liner for the first time, I was in love! It helped prevent my lip products from smudging (as they normally do) and helped give my lips a nice, elegant outline prior to applying any lipstick or lip gloss.
I use this lip liner in the color “Natural,” and I start from the corners of my mouth towards the center. Once I have the general shape of my lips outlined, I fill them in using the same lip liner.

  12. Lipstick: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20)
Just like lip liner, I never used lipstick until this year. I used to find lipsticks bothersome, especially when I would drink with a straw and, to my horror, I would see 95% of my lipstick transfer to my straw.
But with Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks, transfer is almost never an issue. “Lolita” is my absolute favorite shade! I apply this color all over my lips, making sure that I reach the very corners of my mouth.

  13. Highlight: BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector® Pressed Highlighter ($38)
If you do not yet own “Champagne Pop,” you need to go buy one right now! This is one of my most coveted highlighters, with gorgeous hues of gold, pink, and peach all in one.
Using the PRO Fan Brush from the Sephora Collection, I highlight the tops of my cheeks, the tip of my nose, my cupid’s bow, and a tiny bit on my chin. I like to concentrate this product on my cheeks and nose, and then use the remaining product on my brush on the rest of my face.

  14. Setting Spray: Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($32)
Whether I’m aiming for an all-natural or a dramatic makeup look, I NEED to use this spray as soon as I complete my makeup! This helps all my makeup stay on for the rest of the day/night, and it basically locks everything in place so I do not have to worry about smudging or ruining my makeup.
To use this spray, I simply spritz it on my face at least five times.

And that’s my entire makeup routine for the summer of 2017! I hope this helps you find products that work well – especially during the summer heat – and if you ever have any suggestions for more makeup products, please let me know!

As always, I will write again soon! ♡

Love, Roselyn
