Hi, I’m Roselyn Romero!
I’m a public safety reporter for The Oaklandside.
Before my current role, I was The Oaklandside’s small business reporter and a member of the 2023-24 Poynter-Koch Media & Journalism Fellowship Program cohort. Previously, I was an NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit intern and the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting’s inaugural intern with The Associated Press’ Global Investigations team. Prior to those internships, I was the senior content producer at KSBY-TV, the NBC-affiliate local news station serving San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties; a reporter and assistant news editor for Cal Poly’s Mustang News; and the communications coordinator for WITH US Center for Bystander Intervention.
I have experience reporting breaking news, writing investigative and enterprise stories, creating content for social media platforms, copywriting and copyediting for non-profit organizations, and editing audio, photo, and video. You can find samples of my work here.
I graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2022 with a bachelor’s of science in journalism and minors in Spanish, ethnic studies, and women’s & gender studies.
Outside the newsroom, you can find me lifting weights, running, hiking, reading books, watching “Jeopardy!” with my boyfriend, and playing The New York Times’ Wordle, Connections, and Spelling Bee games.
If you’re interested in contacting me for personal or business inquiries, feel free to do so on my Contact page.
Thank you for stopping by!
